Shiki Ryuuhou is a Monster Hunter in a world full of fantastic creatures. Before his master, Gurelli Jescar, met an untimely death, he taught Shiki the most important skill of being a Monster Hunter: teamwork.\r\n\r\nSeveral years later, wielding his dual blades, Shiki heads to Akayama Town\'s Guild to find himself a partner. He takes a liking to the unwilling Irie Jescar, a girl notorious for rejecting any attempt at camaraderie. But her attitude soon changes; when Shiki saves her from a Rathian attack, he reveals that he has the mark of a Forbidden Hunter—meaning he is free to hunt—and that he has only one goal: to fight the legendary Miogaruna.\r\n\r\nIrie is surprised that Shiki believes in the Miogaruna, as the only other person who believed in its existence was her late father, Gurelli. Motivated by the discovery of their shared connection, Irie and Shiki team up to fulfill Gurelli\'s lifelong dream. Thus, the two embark on their legendary journey, gaining allies and rivals while hunting monsters in the grand quest to find the Miogaruna.\r\n\r\n[Written by MAL Rewrite]

a year agoHONEST REVIEW :-Poor adaptation for a wonderful franchise, if you never played a monster hunter games go try one of em , so this manga like a spin-off by fairy tale\'s author the story was so short and rushed it felt it he giving some quick notes or or shots about the MC journey besides that the story filled with the power of the friendship and omg it was so annoying , characters here doing everything for the friendship they don\'t shush about it all , imagine like in the last chapter every sentence mentioned friendship or for the sake of my friend lol fr\n ...\n I want it to stop at some point .\r\n\r\nnothing impressive about att it was poor quality and it seems some copy paste of fairy tale characters , even the monsters themselves not intresting at all however at the end of the day I read it till last chapter it was boring unworthy.

2 years agoA story in the video game 'monster hunter freedom' the story talks about these four guys and the hunt for monsters from that world, how they met, what they have in common, what are their dreams.\r\nThe subject matter of the four volumes is always based on family, loyalty to mates and achieving one\'s dreams. The monsters made by Mashima (both the originals and those created by him) are done very well always with his style; very simple not complex story to introduce us the game and an alternate history.\r\nMy rating for this mini-series is 7 for the story and 7.5 for the art.

11 years agoSo Monster Hunter Orage is a Manga written by Hiro Mashima, the same Hiro Mashima that is writing Fairy Tail and wrote Rave Master. \r\n\r\nMonster Hunter Orage was a short Manga only 14 chapters and it felt rushed. Even so i enjoyed it to the fullest.\r\n\r\nThe story was a typical Hiro Mashima story. The really strong MC with something many others don\'t have in this case it was the forbidden seal, and the rest for example the girl he meets in the beggining and the rival and they work together for a similiar goal. Even tho it was like many others i still liked it\n ...\n and deserves a 7 in story.\r\n\r\nJust like the story the art was a typical Hiro Mashima artwork. But as always i really like the art and it gets a 8.\r\n\r\nSame thing here the characters are similiar to his other work. For example the strong, 'stupid', MC that talks about nakama all the time. The other characters are well thought but still reminds me off other characters from other series. But still deserves an 8 because i love the strong, stupid, nakama-talking MC.\r\n\r\nI really enjoyed MHO so i give it an 9 in enjoyment.\r\n\r\nUsually i would give it a 7 in overall but just because Hiro Mashima wrote it i give an 8.\r\n\r\nI really recommend this manga if someone just want the read something hilarious and/or wants to pass time.

14 years agoHow far would you go to accomplish your goals? Would you stake your life against ruthless wyverns and fiendish dragons with only a blunt blade and a few companions to depend on? That is the duty of a Monster Hunter.\r\n\r\nReminiscent of his other works, Hiro Mashima delivers an uncomplex short series packed full of predictable outcomes and uninspired tropes, based on the popular role-playing game, Monster Hunter. Taking big steps in the start of the manga and mainly appealing to fans of the game ultimately leads to a second half that falls flat.\r\n\r\nPrior knowledge of the game itself is not necessary to follow and understand\n ...\n the story, as the majority of the aspects taken from Monster Hunter are explained in some detail. However, being familiar with the weapon types and monsters adds some level of enjoyment and nostalgia. Fans should expect to see some manga-original features as well, such as new wyverns and hunting methods.\r\n\r\nTypical of shounen series, Monster Hunter Orage delivers a mediocre story set-up primarily as a way to initiate battles. Shiki, a young hunter who bears the Mark of the Sealed Hunter, is in search of Miogaruna, a powerful elder dragon of myth. The story centers around his path to achieving said goal, on his way tackling less powerful monsters whose difficulties grow from one to the next. Shiki eventually forms a four person team including the three other main characters.\r\n\r\nThe main issue with the story is its lack of complexity and uninspired development. Once paired with lack-luster characters, we have a shameless romp of predictable combat and calculated actions. Despite this, Orage can be mindlessly enjoyed as long as you don\'t mind the (welcomed) long chapters that sadly fail to do proper justice to the pleasing art and Monster Hunter background.\r\n\r\nShiki Ryuuhou, the duel-sword wielding protagonist of the story plays the role of your quintessential shounen hero, fairly implicative of Natsuno, the protagonist of Mashima\'s Fairy Tale, go-lucky and simplistic; Shiki offers nothing new in terms of shounen male leads. However, he is the most developed character, so then why is he not the most interesting of the cast? This is mostly due to his static personality, which manages to not take anything away from the story, while also not exactly adding anything.\r\n\r\nIrie Jescar, the stories main heroine and longsword wielder, is nothing particularly interesting, and rather, could be considered annoying just for how simplistically boring and unmoving her personality, her traits, and her mentality are. More so a foil to Shiki, Irie does not hold up as what one would expect in a female lead, despite having a good amount of development to her history and family.\r\n\r\nSakuya and Kuron take a backseat in the story as side characters, and helpful assets for Shiki reaching his goal, but despite being less important story wise, they are in fact much more interesting and entertaining. Sakuya, a bowgun wielder, plays a large role in the second and third chapters of the manga as a blacksmith\'s daughter who helps Shiki and Irie upgrade their equipment. Sakuya has perhaps the most fascinating history of the cast, and you might find yourself rooting for her from the moment she is introduced. Sadly, after her primary chapters, she becomes nothing more then the sweet girl shooting bullets from far away behind the frontlines, of the battles and of the story.\r\n\r\nKuron, a gunlance wielder and one of two antagonists in the plot, takes the role of the high-standing villain and rival to our hero. A somewhat cliché personality and poorly developed back-story lead to a dull climax in his character focused chapters. Full of potential, but unsuccessfully used to the strengths of his character, Kuron fails to deliver the impact a villain should have.\r\n\r\nThe strongest and most redeeming factor of Monster Hunter Orage is its wonderfully drawn art. Battles are beautifully executed, as the characters almost seem to move from panel to panel. The art manages to pull in the reader and leave you wanting to see more. Landscapes and towns are drawn with fine details, and a lot of time is put into the creatures. Despite the cast\'s mediocre attributes, their character designs are done fairly well and bring a fresh breath of liveliness and harmony with the story.\r\n\r\nIf you\'re interested in a shounen series with admirable battles and really don\'t want to invest time into a long, complex story, Monster Hunter Orage manages to deliver in the areas that you\'re probably reading for. However, Orage fails to deliver the necessary development and captivation to keep you reading for aspects beyond the external. A marvelously drawn adventure that succeeds as nothing more then a showcase for shounen merriment.

15 years agoMy oh my, what an enjoyable read this have been. It\'s a short experience, as the manga only has 14 chapters for you to enjoy. After 14 chapters of being in the Monster Hunter world, which would much more befittingly could be called \'Dragon Hunter\', I have to say I am excitingly impressed!\r\n\r\nIf one thing is noticeable about Monster Hunter, then it is it\'s amazing artwork. I have not yet seen a scene in a chapter where no time was put in. The characters looks astonishing and some of the artwork when consisting of villages were a sight to behold as well. The monsters looks\n ...\n absolutely beautiful and really captures the viewer by it\'s details and shapes. It truly is a manga filled with magnificent artwork.\r\n\r\nAs far as the story goes, it\'s a little bland and especially seems rushed since there are only 14 short chapters for us to enjoy. However, it being based off the Monster Hunter games, it did a perfectly fine job sketching the concepts behind this o\' so popular game and it\'s background and purpose. I wish the manga was longer, at least twice as long. So their growth, as well as upgrades and adventures, would be much longer and vivid than is now. There were some exceptional pieces of story work to be found in Monster Hunter; though it was not as well translated in just the short amounts of time it had. However, the story is still enjoyable, makes sense and is definitely enjoyable for any viewer.\r\n\r\nMost of the enjoyment comes from it\'s splendid artwork. But besides that I have to admit that the characters in the story, which is typical for Mashima Hiro, are well explained, fun and and a nice sight to look at. Though the characters are quite stereotypical, as seen in Natsu (Fairy Tail) and Luffy (One Piece), it is still enjoyable since these characters bring a comedic spoof to the story like no others can. Which adds up to the tone and setting of this manga, since it managed to put violence and killing dragons to be a good thing in my book. \r\n\r\nOverall this is a serialization worth mentioning, worth your time (heck, it\'s only 14 chapters long) and worth the read. I enjoyed it and finished it in one go, which took me about 1 - 2 hours. Just to give you an indication. So if you are up for it; give it a shot and you won\'t regret it!

16 years agoOk, to start off, this Manga is based on Capcom\'s game Monster Hunter. The game being widely popular in Japan and Monster Hunter being the best selling PSP game its not surprising that they made a manga adaption for it.\r\n\r\nStory: the story revolves around the protagonist Shiki and his quest to find the legendary Miogaruna. Nothing too original but a decent standing point for the story, if you\'ve played the game you\'ll easily find the story interesting because there are tons of game related experience they\'ll show.\r\n(7/10 yeah, like i said nothing too special)\r\n\r\nArt: there points where the art are well drawn. Like most of the\n ...\n monster are really detailed, the weapons and armors are well designed, although there are also parts that looks like it was drawn in less than a minute. but most of the time the art is drawn well\r\n(9/10 great looking monsters and character designs)\r\n\r\nCharacter: The characters are well drawn but, again nothing original, Shiki looks like Luffy\'s twin brother both in looks and characteristics. ok, getting past it being unoriginal its not that bad considering they how fit their roles nicely.\r\n(7/10 good characters fitting the story but unoriginal)\r\n\r\nEnjoyment: you\'ll definitely enjoy this one, especially if you\'ve played the game. there are plenty of action, cool looking weapons and armors. There are lots of really funny parts that you\'ll really laugh at. its a good manga, in a sense its really similar to One Piece except the action are Monster-Slaying oriented.\r\n(9/10 really an enjoyable read)\r\n\r\nOk, finishing notes... If you\'re playing the game or have played the game i suggest you read this, you\'ll definitely enjoy this. If you haven\'t, check it out you might even be inspired to play the game because of this \r\n\r\ni\'m sorry there are parts that might not be clear or have grammar errors, this is my first review, sorry about that.

16 years agoEver played a game called Monster Hunter? (MHF2, MH2G) Well i did, and im down right happy with this accidental discovery.\r\n\r\nIn a world where hunters exists, as its titles says, its land are ruled by monsters. A boy named Shiki, an orphan, was taken in and trained by a travelling hunter. After training for quite sometime, the trainer dies, ironically due to an accident. His by then, master belonged to a group of special hunters called, Forbidden Hunters. These people had special previlleges and a tattoo to show as proof. A little timeskip after the death of his master, shiki, bearing the tattoo given by\n ...\n his master, was well on his way out into the world of hunters. He met with people along the way, that was again, ironically connected to one another. As the story folds out, shiki travels with a group of comrades, each having the same if not individual goals. Despite him being a random idiot and cracking out cold jokes, he manages to get rivals and enemies too. The story is still going on, as the game proved its enjoyment to me, hopefully the story continues to get better.\r\n\r\nif you like the type of manga that often shows burning desire, spewing out random phrases, loud-brash personality, group of people travelling together, unique weapons and big-big monsters. This should do you good.\r\n\r\nAny of you holds the title of HR 6?. Meaning to say, played the game but haven read it yet, take it as another way to look at the game with the difference of having a storyline. The art, i feel, is emphasized on the monsters, characters and of course, serious scences. Although it would be unfair to compare it this way, the background, however, is a far cry from how it is in actual gaming.\r\n\r\nI gave 8 to enjoyment because i laughed alot. As the game itself is serious, shiki\'s randomness antics and the situation he gets himself into due to his carelessness and stupidity is surprisingly humorous. I didnt know i could easily be made to laugh. Read it and let me know.

16 years agoI\'ve only read 4 chapters so this review may be changed later... Who am I kidding, I\'ve been using this site nearly a year and this is my first review. It\'s not gonna change -_-\r\n\r\nEnjoyment:\r\nI\'ll start out on a positive note by saying that I was pleasantly surprised with how well these first few chapters turned out. As 95% of you know, this was based off a video game. I own one of them and, although I suck at it -_-, I still recognised some of the equipment and most of the monsters in the manga, which I was impressed by. There is actually a\n ...\n good mix of action and humor while it still follows the game.\r\n\r\nStory:\r\nAs that other reviewer (I\'m too lazy to go back and find your name) was saying, you can\'t really expect much of a story from a manga based off a game with no story. Basicly a simple-minded guy that doesn\'t think a bunch meets a girl that is much more independent, but secretly has a deep respect for him, and they travel across the world meeting other people along the way that decide to tag along for their own reasons. I really can\'t say it\'s an original plot at all. It does look like there will be a few twists. You probably won\'t read it for the story.\r\n\r\nArt:\r\nThe characters look the same as all of his other stuff... which all look the same as One Piece. If you like One Piece art, then you\'ll like this art, nuff said. Every once and a while there will also be a detailed drawing, probably of a monster, but overall the art isn\'t as consistant as I would like.\r\n... But I still think it\'s pretty good.\r\n\r\nCharacter:\r\nI\'m gonna start by saying that the hero in the story, Shiki, is a complete copy of Natsu, from his other manga Fairy Tail. Natsu is a complete copy of Luffy from One Piece. Nothing else is really worth mentioning. I think all of the characters are good, but theres no way they\'re getting on my favorites list.\r\n\r\nSound:\r\nlol just kidding xD\r\n\r\nOverall anyone who enjoys any of the shows in the "User Reccomendations" should like this (surprise surprise -_-). If you like the games and don\'t hate One-Piece-like stuff then you should check it out.\r\n\r\nGod that took a long time... it will be a loooooooooong time before I write another review o_O

16 years agoTaken from a capcom game, it has a weak story, considering that the game has no story at all. The only thing I like about this manga is that I play monster hunter and I\'m a fan myself. Although, I\'m not saying it\'s bad. It\'s(the manga) fun, exciting and thrilling on how the main characters are going to portray their role. BUT doesn\'t have a decent story at all.\r\n\r\nAnyway, aside from the story, MHO still has their points. Cool weapons taken from the original game. The way it was drawn seem like you\'re playing the manga instead of reading it. I just hope that the\n ...\n mangaka would intrudoce all, if not, most of the weapons in the game.\r\n\r\nOverall, It wipes out boredom. As for a monster hunter fan, I can say I enjoyed it. But as a manga an anime critic, Its below my list.
