Supernatural

Rumors of the supernatural overrun Kamome Academy, namely the "Seven Mysteries." One of these mysteries is the legend of Hanako-san, the ghost of a young girl residing in the girl's bathroom on the third floor of the old school building, who is said to grant any wish her summoner desires. First-year high school student Nene Yashiro daringly summons Hanako-san in desperate need of love, but the Hanako that appears before her is a boy! After Hanako-kun claims that he has no magical items of use, Nene tries various ways to get noticed by her crush. With her desperation reaching its peak, she gets into trouble after consuming a mermaid scale, which turns her into a fish. Hanako-kun rescues her, binding their fates together in the process; in return for this aid, Nene must become his assistant. Now entangled in the supernatural realm, Nene soon discovers that there's much more to the school's Seven Mysteries than basic rumors. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Story: 7\r\n\r\nIt’s not amazing but not terrible. The comedy ruins some serious parts. It has a real plot that actually moves forward.\r\n\r\nArt: 10\r\n\r\nIt’s flawless if you like cutesy themed art. Even if you don’t exactly enjoy that theme, it’s still extremely pretty.\r\n\r\nCharacter: 7\r\n\r\nYashiro wants a boyfriend but because of her fat ankles, she gets teased. She’s precious but annoying at times and the authors put too much into teasing her as a comedic thing. Hanako is your regular sometimes frustratingly mysterious ghost. Kou an exorcist that tried to exorcise Hanako but then started to get comfortable. At first, it may seem like your regular exorcist-ghost\n ...\n relationship but that’s not all about him. His relationship with Yashiro and Mitsuba later develops.\r\n\r\nEnjoyment: 9\r\n\r\nI like most things except universally hated things so it might seem that I’m overrating this category a little but I guess that’s what I think.\r\n\r\nOverall: 9\r\n\r\nI wouldn’t recommend this if you dislike cute manga things but if you do, this is heaven.

Toilet bound Hanako Kun, adapted into anime in 2020 and since gained a cult following. Was the hype on this seemingly cutesy show worth it? Yes. \r\n\r\nI am only going to focus on the Manga, but give the anime a go if you don\'t favor the idea of sitting through many chapters. \r\n\r\nOh boy, lots to unpack right here. The story was great, amazing, and the art is an absolute blessing to view. The characters were incredibly well built and I enjoyed this manga, though it is not finished.\r\n\r\nLet\'s get on to the main part of what makes shows unique, the story. It starts as\n ...\n your typical 'I am in love with a ghost' trope, but dig in for a few chapters, and to 30 chapters and more, this clearly was not the case. There were some comedic moments here and there, but the authors still managed to incorporate dark elements into it. The lore is amazing, incredibly in-depth, and interesting, with every chapter more questions arise. Though it can get a tad bit repetitive, and even lengthy. Some arcs are too short, some too long, but it isn\'t something that I would really bother complaining about. The plot has its flaws, but still very unique and interesting. \r\n\r\nThe art scores a 10/10 for me right away. Everything from the line art, screen-toning, and even panel structuring impressed me. I\'m not too much of an art critic but just look at the style! everything is so detailed it amazes me! it works well in both light and dark situations and always makes the characters more alive, even if they\'re dead (hanako kun).\r\n\r\nCharacters. All the characters were decently built, my favorites in terms of development and writing were Nene and Aoi. Sure, their behavior can be quite repetitive at times but there is always something fresh about them, new enough you don\'t feel tired of them. Hanako, although playfully joking in nearly every single scene still manages to be a fun character, and a super edgy one too. (I\'m looking at you, 14-year-old boys.)\r\n\r\nOverall, definitely worth the read if you want stunning art, interesting lore and a rollercoaster of emotions.

I don\'t think this manga is actually a 10/10, but after seeing so many unfair low ratings, I gave a 10/10 for balancing it. I still love it though, and god, I adore Hanako-kun.\r\n\r\nLet\'s start with the creators. There are two separate people for art and writing, however, they\'re a team and call themselves AidaIro. Seeing two people always working together and having experience with working with each other beforehand is something I rarely see. It\'s not related to the manga, obviously, but I wanted to point it out. \r\n\r\n\r\nSTORY: The story is revolving around a school full of supernatural things and rumors. Our heroine\n ...\n Yashiro Nene, an extremely susceptible girl. She wants to date an upperclassman whom she barely knows and for this, she gets help from a supernatural creature, Hanako-san. Hanako-san is actually a Japanese urban legend, however, we see her as a boy in this series. \r\n\r\nThe story isn\'t exactly a linear one. It develops with characters, there are many things and subplots going on, but in the end, all of them unite at some point and everything makes sense. \r\n\r\nPlot twists, especially the plot twists of the last two arcs are enjoyable. It\'s easy to predict the ones at the start though, I\'m not sure if they\'re counted as plot twists. \r\n\r\nMost of the people seem to complain about Hanako-kun\'s and Tsukasa-kun\'s past not getting revealed, but that\'s... nonsense. Let me explain, there are 7 really strong supernaturals in the series, called 7 School Legends, and we saw their stories blended with our main characters. Hanako-kun is my favorite character in the series and of course, I would like to know about him, however, adding his backstory to these arcs would be really pointless and messy. And, I\'m pretty sure when we see their past, it\'ll be really different from what we imagine and what we think.\r\n\r\nBecause Iro, our writer is pretty good and the manga\'s current state feels extremely soft for their level, it\'s like we\'re only reading the surface of the story right now. \r\n\r\nRight now, there\'s only one certain thing that bothers me in the story. I wouldn\'t say it\'s a plot hole, but it will certainly turn to one if they leave us without any explanation in the future. I\'m trying to keep this spoiler-free, so I won\'t reveal anything. \r\n\r\n\r\nCHARACTERS: \r\n\r\nOkay, at first, character designs are amazing.\r\n\r\nAll of them are extremely stylistic, eyes, hairstyles, colors, accessories, and flaws... It\'s really good, pleasing to good at, easy to remember, and unique. \r\n\r\nEven characters with really small screen time can be easily remembered. So many series have this, but I honestly think that JSHK\'s are way more pleasant to look at.\r\n\r\nOkay, back to characters. Some of their traits are for comic relief, and as an enjoyer of comedy+action package series, it\'s normal to see some of these traits in a little absurd level sometimes, for comedy\'s sake. This is pretty common, or I\'m really used to it since Gintama is my favorite series.\r\n\r\nNow, all of them are actually pretty okay. They\'re not one-dimensional. Including ones with so little screen time. Aoi, a childhood friend of Yashiro Nene was the biggest example of that with the last arc. \r\n\r\nThey\'re many good details and foreshadowings that I wasn\'t able to realize at first glance. I really like how they explain what it feels like to be dead through Hanako-kun. Characters\' concepts, aesthetics, their symbolism is actually pretty good, pleasant, and heartwarming. \r\n\r\nAs I said, the concepts and aesthetics are amazing. Yet the delivery sometimes feels rushed and basic. For example, Mitsuba. His introduction was extremely rushed and unlike most people, I didn\'t feel that emotional. Like, I love his core but not his arc. \r\n\r\nYashiro Nene is the most nerfed character of all. Her personality was way, way more dimensional, interesting and sympathetic. Iro wrote her way more detailed in their mind, according to pilot chapters, at least. Unfortunately, we can\'t see all of Yashiro Nene in the actual series. She\'s a good person, extremely cute. Even though she isn\'t exactly a well-written character, she was pretty good at last arcs though and we\'ll see a huge character development soon. Also, the fat ankles sub-plot deserves more recognition. You don\'t see the main character with an actual appearance flaw that often, especially in shoujo genre. Same with Hanako-kun. I love the fact that he\'s shorter than the girl he\'ll probably end up with. \r\n\r\nHonestly, except for these two, I don\'t have a complaint about characters. Good concepts, cute designs, they do their part, all of them have their way of meaning and can be complex at a decent level... It\'s enough to read. \r\n\r\n\r\nART: I don\'t think I need to talk about it. Even the worst reviews said that it\'s amazing or the only good thing etc. It\'s original, really characteristic, I think that eyes are sometimes drawn too big though. Oh, also there are many good panels along with extremely nice covers. \r\n\r\n\r\nENJOYMENT: I enjoy the manga and characters- by a lot. There are so many good materials and art to dig in there. I read it really fast, it wasn\'t boring and I... actually never thought any arc was boring or too long? Maybe not in Chainsaw Man level, but still pretty smooth and fast to read after the first chapters.\r\n\r\n\r\nOVERALL: For the concept and enjoyment I have, I\'ll gladly rate this 10. I strongly recommend it. It\'s one of those stories that everyone can find something to enjoy in it. It\'s obviously targeted to girls, but I\'ve seen many people enjoying it regardless of gender. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nI did not check this review, so I\'m sorry for the grammar mistakes you\'ll encounter.

It was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. Starting off with a light-hearted situational comedy with some supernatural sprinkled in, slowly but surely a solid storyline begins to flow in, and it is wonderful. Characterisation is amazing, I ended up getting emotionally attached to all of them, and with all this angsty and dangerous situations that happen to them and them being on the verge of death you get really nervous but also thrilled with finding out how the story will take it turn.\r\nThe worldbuilding is really neat, a lot of concepts that get introduced early on appear later in the story and get\n ...\n more important role. I really like dynamics between the characters, they are all memorable and loveable in their own unique way. \r\nThere is a nice amount of angst thrown in, and some readers may relate to the motives and situations characters end up with. (i genuinely cried during the picture perfect arc, mei\'s story really resonated with me and it hurted me on a really deep level i can\'t even describe) You may end up getting lost in all this amount of game-changing events happening in every chapter and all these revelations that you hardly have time to process, but they are brought back later so you have time to think about them. One of the things I really disliked about the story is that Hanako ends up dragging Yashiro out of literally any danger, and some ongoing jokes are getting annoying really fast (kitsune udon isn\'t brought up anymore, but one more daikon legs mention and i\'ll snap), sometimes writers even forget about some plot points. But honestly, for me it didn\'t really matter because you don\'t think about it while reading.\r\nDid I mention that the artstyle is legendary? So, the artstyle is legendary and character designs are done incredibly well. Color pallete on official illustrations and covers is really unique and the atmosphere has its own charm, it\'s like you\'re reading a fairy tale from your childhood that grew up with you. In this world, even if the good will always win, there\'s no guarantee that everybody will meet their happy ever after.

I\'m gonna skip every analyzation about this anime, and will plainly just give it a dazzling 10.\r\n\r\nIf you think this manga is just a fluffy romcom with no main story, then you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG about it.\r\nThis series is so much more than that, and its writing is absolutely beautiful.\r\n\r\nFirst of all, I just want to clarify that you shouldn\'t believe the stats on MyAnimeList when it comes to this series. In Japan, this series literally had a solid fandom even before the anime aired. Some people called even called it a cult haha. As a youtube anime reviewer said, 'i\'ve seen this series being\n ...\n advertid literally everywhere in Japan. After all, the english translation of the manga\'s title is a trap. Jibaku can actually mean 'suicide' in Japan, thus attracting a lot of attention in the country. On the other hand, the series\'s popularity in other countries is kinda low. I honestly wish this got more attention.\r\n\r\nAll things aside for now, I just wanna say that if you see the 3 people who reviewed this manga as a 3, a 4, and a 6, they\'re probably just people who hadn\'t read it even half of it, or were just to shallow to understand the characters\' feelings.\r\n\r\nFirst: the story. \r\nThis is obviously a 10. I have got to admit that the art was the one that draw me to this series, but the writing far surpassed my expectations. I\'ll explain more on the Character part of this review.\r\nAnd also, there are a FRICKIN WHOLE LOT EASTER EGGS that even after you\'re third re-read, you didn\'t notice it. And a lot of symbolisms and Japanese mythology.\r\nIn conclusion, the plot is seriously original in ALL aspects. If you read it, don\'t just drop it after a few chapters or so. Atleast read half of it, and you\'ll know why we manga readers are so obsessed with this series.\r\n\r\nArt is: undoubtedly a 10.\r\nIf you see the first chapter and you thought you liked the art, then wth it\'s only getting started. I compared the first and latest chapter\'s (currently Chapter 69) art and the artist\'s development in his/her art style is beyond amazing. Again, this aspect is another original of the series. Even the people who rated the series low actually rated the art a 9.\r\n\r\nMoving on though:\r\nCharacter is: a 9.\r\nOkay, you\'ve gotta admit that the characters may seem a bit shallow sometimes (especially as the case of the main heroine), but I\'ve gotta warn you that there\'s more to them than that. The writing provides the characters with thoughts and feelings that they neither say nor even mention in their monologues. Just like REAL people, the character\'s don\'t really say what they think out loud, even with their so-called 'friends', especially if it\'s offensive. They\'re response to serious situations are so realistic, especially if you put yourselves in their shoes.\r\nWhat I commonly hate about anime/manga series is the fact that after an arc or after confronting the enemy of a minor arc, everything goes back to normal as if it never happened in the first place. Meanwhile, there are some that are too over-the-top and dedicated their whole lives for the sake of a single arc. But then their resolve weakens after their friends tell them to move on or something. And it\'s just too over-used and unrealistic.\r\nJSHK on the other hand, gives us an in-depth interpretation of a used-to-be killer, and that no few words from a friend can ever erase what you did before, no matter what you do. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. You can\'t just say that 'it\'s my responsibility to live, because i took his life' or 'we gotta move forward instead of dwelling on the past', because these phrases are nothing but sophisms.\r\n\r\nAnd of course:\r\nEnjoyment is: a 10.\r\nIf I had the ability, I\'d honestly rate it 3000. I\'ve enjoyed picking up easter eggs and foreshadowing way too much in this manga. And the fluff (which is always laced with depression) never ends.\r\n\r\nOverall, this manga series is an unmistakable 10.\r\nIf you plan on binge-reading all of it in a night, I recommend that you prepare a box of tissues near you and that you take your time in putting yourselves in the characters\' shoes. I promise you that this series is worth your time, so please give it a chance. Just be prepared for some heavy-ass depression while reading it tho. Btw, the manga\'s still on-going and isn\'t ending anytime soon, so catch up now! \r\n\r\nThat concludes my review on my favorite: Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun.

Toilet Bound Hanako Kun is a very unique manga\r\nEndlessly entertaining, the kind of thing that really puts a smile on my face. Or just makes me feel sad.\r\nSometimes it’s cute and funny, sometimes it’s dark and depressing. \r\nNot like Made in Abyss, it’s not nearly as gruesome. It’s more subtle with the occasionally dark themes it presents. It’s not really “disturbing” in any way.\r\nThe art is amazing, creepy and cute all at the same time. It’s the kind of art that works for comedic cute moments and works for the occasional darker moments. It’s remarkably detailed and consistent, and something that you can appreciate even\n ...\n if you hate the story. The character designs are all extremely cute and unique too.\r\nOne big strength in this manga are the characters. They’re all very VERY cute. I have never found myself hating any of them. They’re the kinda characters you want to protecc. I would say the least likable is the protagonist Nene. She’s a bit useless, and in love with being in love. Her defining feature is her radish legs. Yes, really. But despite her more annoying aspects, she’s pretty adorable in her own radish way. Hanako and Minamoto are better, two very good boys with lovable personalities.\r\nThe story of the manga is simple with no real overarching story line, at least not at this point in the manga. However, it just works and is compelling enough to keep you entertained throughout. Though the story itself is not the selling point of this manga. The comedy is a bit hit or miss, but overall it all just works.\r\nThis manga is very fun to read, and easy to marathon. If you want an entertaining manga to spend time on in times of quarantine, it’s a good read that I would enthusiastically recommend. Easily one of my all time favorites.

-this will probably only make sense if youve read the manga fully-\r\n\r\naaaa, to be short i prefer the manga over the anime. Its so cute and absolutely gorgeous, im always excited when a new chapter comes out. I think the problem alot of people have with it is there isnt a strong plot, but honestly i really love that about it. Think about it this way, maybe not all manga and anime HAS to have a strong plot. Like, theres a plot buried under there, but theyre just kinda enjoying their lives. Its cute, feels really in tune to the generation. I think it has\n ...\n possibly the best humor out of the mangas ive read, and i like the characters too. Hanako has a dark backstory and could easily be bad, but hes enjoying his time and taking it easy, yknow? Its chill, comfy. Not action packed or anything. Nene is a fun character, i honestly like her. I think she would be the kind of person i would talk to occasionally, but wouldnt be good friends with. Shes girly but not passive, and i like that she has a main goal of obtaining love. Its kind of a magnified version of high school girls. We dont know much about kou, and im kinda curious about his family, but im sure hell get an arc eventually. I like how the supporting characters have an important role in the story. Nene’s friend aoi is sweet and supportive, and also introduces the current rumor that fuels the arc. However, in the more recient chapters, its revealed she actually feels alone alot, despite being popular. She feels like an outcast, so i like that shes not just a one dimensional support rock. Teru, kous brother, is also a character that occasionally pops by. I honestly just like having him there for shipping purposes, and i think hanako and nene’s relationship could get real spicy if the story goes as planned in my mind. He doesnt really do much, but adds to the fun environment of the lighter parts of the manga. Mitsuba kinda annoys me so i wont discuss him, but hes a liiiiittle bit unimportant?? I dunno i just feel like he shouldnt be such a big issue. I like the bad guys, the whole brother thing is iconic but its a nice twist that they\'re both at the same school. Uhh, thats all i have to report but i really do like this manga. c:\r\n\r\nPs, the fandom is pretty cute other than tsukasaxhanako shippers,,,,,like cmon guys theyre brothers fr

Although the story comes from a old urban legend, the way the author wrote it and made it their own is honestly amazing. The characters are fun, the way they introduce new characters makes you want to keep reading to find out about them. There hasn\'t been a manga I\'ve read in a while that made me genuinely want to know more. Now don\'t get me started on the art. It\'s absolutely beautiful! The colors and the style blend together so well, I love it! I enjoyed every minute of reading it and I\'m sad to say I finished the whole thing within a week,\n ...\n and now I have to wait for it to get updated. But now I\'m filled with more excitement to read it because it\'s left me wondering what\'ll happen next. Overall I gave this manga a 10/10 because of how amazing it is! Go ahead and give it a read!

I AM TELLING YALL, THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE!\r\n\r\nI am really obsessed with this story and artstyle and more. If you like the anime please reade the manga. In my case manga is a lot better than anime so i gave the manga 10/10.\r\nI feel like i have never even in anime jumped in schock or screamed like i did while reading this manga. My life goal is to get all the volumes cuz it was just that good.\r\nI showed the manga to my friend and three days later she came screaming at me that she loved\n ...\n it so mutch. I told her to read the manga first before watching the anime cuz in my opinion i kinda hate the animation quality. \r\nLots of love for this manga and i really do recommend it.

I love this manga. The story is great, and characters have depth and everyone looks cute. The art is amazing, and the anime animated the odd colorful style perfectly. By adapting it this way, the animation is minimalist, but it\'s a great show. In the beginning, it seemed like a normal shoujo girl x ghost, but then more characters were introduced and Hanako was given a lot more depth as a character. The whole aura of the story is great too. what seemed like a normal comedy romance shoujo actually had it\'s dark moments, with twisted characters, and later in the manga there are even\n ...\n more plot twists. Hanako slowly starts revealing more about himself and arcs that seem like complete fillers actually add more depth to characters.

I loved every little bit of Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, but I\'ll admit that it is not a manga for everyone. The story is about a girl named Nene who heard that there\'s a ghost who grants wishes in her school. She looked for him and meets him in a haunted bathroom. The ghost is named Hanako and, through a series of unfortunate events, Nene becomes tied to this ghost and has to help him keep the other ghosts in check. The story isn\'t really what matters here. It\'s an open plot that allows for great side stories. And, at first, that\'s what I was thinking. The\n ...\n story is okay, the characters are cute, and the episodic storytelling is really good. My favorite thing about it was how it was drawn cute, but the artwork lead to creepier moments.\r\nBut as I kept reading, the story got more complicated, more dramatic, more dark, more creepy, and more epic to a point where I couldn\'t wait to see what was going to happen next. There are some actually sad moments in here. The artwork (which is some of the best art I\'ve seen in a manga) adds to the effect of the dark and creepy moments because it looks cute. When you see some of the stuff that goes down later in the series, the contrast between the cute and the serious is so well defined. But, I don\'t think everyone loves stories like this. It blends a lot of generas together and, while I loved it, it\'s not for everyone. I say give it a shot and see if it\'s your kind of thing. There is an anime set to be released next month by Studio Lerche and I will certainly be watching.

I\'ve never wrote a review before but oh boy is this a disaster\r\nJibaku Shounen Hanako-kun is a manga that looks really fun and has a quite unique style. I\'ve been following this manga ever since it started yet it turned out to be a huge disappointment.\r\n\r\nStory:\r\nA story about urban legends in a school, interesting at first yet actually just a cliche plot. Most of the time the plot is just Nene getting rescued by her har-- friends. Super unrealistic and has tons of plot holes. This mangas only comedy source is Nene\'s legs. But pacing is the worst part here, it\'s been 64 chapters and\n ...\n we still have no idea about what is the relationship between Tsukasa and Amane (and no background of Amane either). So many useless drama that cames out of nowhere yet leaves an impact on characters (you know which I\'m talking about).\r\nI have no idea where author is going but I have no hope for it either. 3/10\r\n\r\nCharacters:\r\nOh god. Here we go.\r\nYou couldn\'t guess such a horrible mc for a manga like this. The whole personality of Nene is just how horny she is and how she has \'radish ankles\'.\r\nCan\'t do anything on her own and always gets in trouble and waits for help from Hanako. She put herself in danger multiple times to get her dreamy harem. A typical shoujo mc but worse.\r\n\r\nI can\'t really say anything about Hanako because we never got any info about him really. A cool ghost boy with really good patience\r\n\r\nKou. Actually the only one that I can call a character.\r\nHis first debut was aggressive yet he quickly developed so much. A very nice boy that cares about his friends and tries his best.\r\n\r\nTsukasa gang is cool but sadly we don\'t know much about them for now.\r\n\r\nOverall there are so much useless/cliche characters in this manga. 2/10\r\n\r\nArt:\r\nI think we all can agree that art is the best thing in this manga. While it\'s cute and original, it\'s also very detailed and nicely done. The whole reason I started reading this was the artwork and is the reason I haven\'t dropped it yet. 9/10\r\n\r\nEnjoyment:\r\nWell, I tried my best enjoying this manga because of how much I love how it looks- But it was impossible with such plot and mc. 1/10\r\n\r\nOverall... 4/10 I can\'t give a lower point when Kou exists and I really like the artstyle.\r\nThis manga was a HUGE disappointment to me, like I said. I had very high expections and none of them were answered. Even so, I understand how this manga is really popular and loved, I\'m just really salty :P\r\n\r\nI tried my best to explain my views on Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun but I\'m nowhere expert in English so I may have not convey my thoughts very well.

I just recently binged this amazing series and enjoyed every second! Shounen is said to be for boys but really girls will get a kick out of this! It\'s very hilarious and deep!\r\n\r\nSTORY 9/10\r\nIt has a very solid story and its fun like I\'m always looking forward to something and something is always going on! It\'s like there will be something serious to lore and then there will be a chapter dedicated to something funny like 'Zombie Mokke'\r\n\r\nART 10/10 \r\nThe art style was AmAzInG it\'s super unique and fun! The creator obviously put a lot of effort into drawing each boundary and character designs!\r\n\r\nCHARACTER 9/10\r\nThe\n ...\n characters for this series are really fun! Amane has the most lore and it\'s all very interesting to learn about! Amane has a deep past with a lot to uncover and figure out! (I just want to know why Amane is such a perv)\r\n\r\nENJOYMENT 10/10\r\nThere was not one second nothing was going on! I was always in a fangirl mood and everything felt like fanservice! Hanako-Kun\'s character is hilarious to watch as he makes his jokes and plays around but then gets flustered up by the smallest thing!\r\n\r\nOVERALL 10/10\r\nYeah not lying this was the best thing ever! It\'s like a fresh start! A fresh storyline! Fresh art! and super fun to read! I enjoyed everything about it! Honestly, this should be the Shounen god right now!

I started to read this manga in 2018 or so, and I fell hard in enjoyment! The plot was hilarious, the character so cute and stupid (in a joyable way) and the story just takes it turns! \r\n\r\nThe story starts with Yashiro Nene, who is in love with the school president, of course she isn\'t really in love with this guy, even if that guy is handsome, amazing, kind and... I will not spoil but have some knowledge on one thing or another. \r\nSo Nene hears the rumor of the seven legends (some urban known thing in Japan) and she goes to Hanako-san, only that\n ...\n Hanako-san is not a cute little girl that hides in the girls bathroom, this Hanako is a guy, and a really interesting one. \r\n\r\nThe story goes on. Nene isn\'t in love with the president and Hanako have a lot of secrets. I can only recommend this manga over the anime adaption that came out this January 2020. The manga is so much better! So more cute! And a bit more funnier!!!

Jibaku Shonen Hanako-kun is an enjoyable read, with fun characters, new twists on urban legends and tropes, and beautiful art. \r\n\r\nStory - At the beginning of the manga, it might seem like the story will be somewhat episodic or nonlinear. Rest assured, though, a plot does come in to play. Yashiro Nene, a human girl, meets Hanako, a ghost, and the two wind up supernaturally linked to one another and must figure out the mysteries of the school the manga takes place in together. It\'s not a terribly unusual premise, but the writing makes it fun and interesting nonetheless. As the story progresses, there are\n ...\n hints towards a larger narrative and nicely placed hints as to what may ultimately be taking place. I think, personally, that the real draw of this manga\'s story is less held by the plot itself and more within the characters. This is in no small part due to the fact that the plot is intrinsically linked to Hanako and company.\r\n\r\nCharacters - I think this is a very character driven series. Due to that, it makes sense that the characters in this manga are, for the most part, very well done. There isn\'t a single reoccurring character in this series that I am not at the very least intrigued by. The main trio, which is comprised of a human girl, an exorcist boy, and a ghost are the standouts of the cast. They are the ones we spend the most time with, and both Hanako and Kou are very enjoyable to read about. Hanako in particular is very interesting, as more facets of his character come to light as the story progresses and relationships develop. Even the antagonists of the series are interesting, and I find myself wanting to learn more about them, even when they cause serious trouble for the main trio. I also want to mention that the dynamic of the main trio is super cute. Like, really super cute, yknow?\r\n\r\nCharacter interactions are also very well done, especially within but even outside of the main trio. \r\n\r\nOne of the only issues I have with the characterization in this series is that Yashiro is a little bit underwhelming as a protagonist. She isn\'t a bad character, and she is endearing, but she is very centered on the traits of wanting a boyfriend (yes, romance does come in to play) and feeling upset about her ankles. She is also generally in need of rescue in pretty much every situation where there\'s major conflict. It is worth it to note though that characters do develop within the story, so it\'s possible these could be changed later on.\r\n\r\nArt - The art in this series is amazing, point blank. The cute but flexible art style lends itself well to the setting and doesn\'t feel like a constraint even in dramatic moments, since it can shift to a more serious version of itself depending on the mood. The characters are adorable and the backgrounds and settings are gorgeous. The black and white pages are clean, crisp, and fittingly detailed or simple depending on the moment, and the rare colored pages are stunning. This manga is honestly worth at least trying out for the art alone.\r\n\r\nEnjoyment - As you can probably tell by the text wall, I really enjoyed this series. I read it all very quickly and will probably read it again, too! My favorite aspects are definitely the characters and the art. I went in with basically no expectations or prior knowledge about the series, and ended up finding a new favorite. I\'m definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.\r\n\r\nOverall, it\'s a series that\'s definitely worth trying out. It\'s got great characters, an enjoyable plot, and cute art all with mysterious and sometimes melancholic undertone. If any of the premise, characters, or art intrigue you, you should give it a shot and see if you like it. For me, it\'s a solid eight at least, and could probably go up depending on how the series continues in the future.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is a manga that is beloved by a bunch of my friends in real life and online, so when I heard it was getting an anime in 2020, I let my curiosity get the better of me by reading it before seeing the adaptation itself.\r\n\r\nExcuse me if the review is poorly written compared to my other ones, I just wrote this on the fly without preparing well like the others (since I wanted to avoid spoiling much detail to the story). These are just brief thoughts.\r\n\r\nStory/Writing (2/10)\r\n\r\nIt is a very uninteresting story that felt shoddy in terms of consistency. There were a few\n ...\n plot conveniences that popped up as the story progressed, and the direction itself was pretty uninteresting too for me and in the end, feels like a dreadful waste of time.\r\n\r\nThe comedy was a big miss for me too. It had its cute moments, but there were a lot of awkward spots and unfunny jokes. The anklet stuff never got me one bit.\r\n\r\nThe pacing is fine, and I admire that there is an underlying narrative for this manga (which I expected no real story at the start). But, the actual story and execution of it left me severely underwhelmed and drained so far.\r\n\r\nCharacters (3/10)\r\n\r\nThe cast for this manga was pretty dull for the most part. Full of unlikable characters and forgettable characters too.\r\n\r\nArt (9/10)\r\n\r\nThe story wasn\'t beautiful, but I\'ll admit that the art was.\r\n\r\nThe characters looked really well-drawn, with cute and charming designs mixed with a creepy atmosphere too surrounding them. It\'s very interesting.\r\n\r\nEnjoyment (1.5/10)\r\n\r\nI normally try and best not to go with expectations in mind whenever I see an anime or read a manga, but due to how much I\'ve heard about how amazing it was, I couldn\'t resist.\r\n\r\nAnd I\'m more disappointed in myself, for letting them get to me than by the manga itself.\r\n\r\nDue to my expectations, the lackluster experience of this manga stung me more than I wished. This manga started well but ended up being underwhelming and even full of issues itself when I caught up by the end.\r\n\r\nOverall, it\'s a manga that I can see why many would love, and I could also see it receiving rave reviews for its anime adaptation in Winter 2020. But sadly, the manga could not capture my interest and I\'ve lost a lot of hype that I initially had for the anime when the announcement came.\r\n\r\nIt\'s a shame, but the manga is just a major drag where the art is the only thing of positive value. And given how many manga out there have good art nowadays, having good art isn\'t enough to cut it. It\'s very easy to see manga with great art but it\'s the gems that have great storytelling and characters that are much more rare to find and much more lovable to cherish. This unfortunately not coming anywhere near close to that area. Very disappointed overall.\r\n\r\nThe quality of this manga is bound to end up in the toilet, as my time got flushed down reading this.\r\n\r\nScore 2/10

Art: 9/10: It\'s cool and gothic, honestly the only reason why anyone will stay to read this\r\n\r\nStory: 1/10: Can\'t rant more about this. It started off with a pretty cool premise. Different mysteries and our main character trapped in a toilet, yeah?\r\n\r\nThe only problem is that our second main character has everything worked out for her. It\'s pretty much all your typical manga issues: everything being concluded with a simple swing of the knife, a single talk to from our second main character resolves the whole isssue that has been bothering our villains for a Long time, or coaxing enemies into submission; events conveniently happening\n ...\n whenever it suits the author, like if mc1 says not to let side character touch mc2, you know for sure mc2\'s gonna get touched for sure.\r\n\r\nIt\'s all very predictable with the Friend turned into enemy troupe, and enemies turned to friends, most ostensibly by the Mary Sue. Except, in this particular work, the coolest villains whose background story get explored immediately after their defeat will thereafter be flung into the abyss and be forgotten till the author decides to conveniently pop them up again.\r\n\r\nNeed I also tell you that (spoiler) mc2 gets turned into a fish whenever she touches water? The author conveniently skips all parts about how she bathes, and how she hides that from her parents. I know this whole story is supposed to focus heavily on the school setting, but it\'s almost as if this world is a vacuum where the only characters are our three mcs. Honestly, there\'s not an ounce of realism in this world at all.\r\n\r\nCharacter: 1/10 I would give a 0 if that is possible.\r\n\r\nMc2 aka. The girl: can be summarized as lovesick fool, plus radish. Literally, when she goes into a hell where students are tormented by their innermost fear, hers shows up in the form of people calling her a radish. Seriously, does she not have other problems? The author brings the joke too far in terms of constantly reminding us she has oddly shaped feet, making every single character point that out upon meeting. Fun fact: she was only bullied for it in one panel, by that one minor character that showed up only on one page.\r\n\r\nThis character is unrealistic, stupidly naive, and you\'ll find everyone falling in love with her for no reason. She has your special Naturo speak no jutsu, except in most cases, you won\'t find her doing a single thing besides flailing, floundering, worrying needlessly till someone takes pity and treats her nicely. She is the whole flaw in this manga, because you\'ll find the author pulling every reason out of their ass to make the two other main characters fall in love with her. Absolutely horrendous.\r\n\r\nMc3: the student boy minamoto: believable. It\'s entirely refreshing how much he stands up for himself and others when the story decides to focus on him. That\'s a tell on how abused we are as readers, because we\'re constantly forced to view things from the pov of our pitiful useless mc2. His growth is the one thing that keeps me reading on.\r\n\r\nMc1 the ghost: the highlight of the show. Little titbits about his past keeps getting revealed along the way. Teasing and fun in a way that is not always harmless but completely intriguing, he is the saving grace up until you realise the author has decided to dedicate an entire arc to him playing martyr and playing the role of the villain just to save our useless ignorant mc2 again. \r\n\r\nHonestly, let\'s just stop it with the whole mc2 thing already. I get how useless she is that she needs everyone to protect her, but honestly? This whole story is turning into a self-fulfilment fic where the mc2 self insert is trying to collect a harem of knights to protect her. Frankly, I\'d enjoy it much more if the author starts being real and treats this story that way. That\'s clearly their drift. \r\n\r\nAlso, I\'m not exactly sure on the genre of this manga. Is this romance? Is there supposed to be a love triangle between all the mc? Because with the way mc3\'s heart goes flying out whenever mc2 does something and mc1 plays the whole role of the darling knight for mc2, I find it dubious that this is even your friendship troupe. I dread the more I read, because this is clearly not the content I signed up for.\r\n\r\nAlso: misaki: honestly, what can I say? He\'s that one cockroach that refuses to die and the more he returns, the more he ruins the perfect character you wish the author had left dead in the beginning. Also, he\'s soft on mc2. Need I say more?\r\n\r\nOverall, enjoyment: (0) 1/10. I read this because the anime will be coming in 2020, but I\'m left wondering why I wasted my time.

There are three reasons to read this manga.\r\n1. The art style is unique. It has a cute, surreal, and sometimes creepy vibe to it.\r\n2. It has some very cute and very good boys. Let me re-emphasize: EVERYONE IS EXTREMELY CUTE.\r\n3. The story involves the fleeting, melancholic nature of relationships between ghosts and humans. Also, the ghosts are your classic 'I was unhappy during life and am now trying to find fulfillment by remaining here after death' kind of thing. There\'s a pervading feeling of sadness behind all of the cute character designs and strange supernatural occurrences.\r\n\r\nIf this sounds like your thing, it probably is.\r\nBut I\n ...\n guess there are details to talk about.\r\n\r\nThe plot: ehh who cares?\r\nGirl meets boy who is a ghost. Girl gets into trouble that causes her to become tied to the ghost. The other special ghosts of the school aren’t behaving normally for some reason. Boy and girl help the ghosts work through their problems plus deal with character drama. Honestly, it doesn’t matter that much. The value of the plot comes from it being an effective vehicle for showcasing the art style and giving the very cute characters an opportunity to be sad.\r\n\r\nThe characters: \r\nWhat’s better than good boys? Sad good boys. \r\nHanako: main boy. He’s a sad ghost boy. Very cute. My primary issue with him is that he’s a little too handsy/clingy with the protagonist. This is fine in the beginning because you see him as this poor kid who is starved for human interaction and affection, but then they decide to turn it into the whole “he’s a pervert lol” joke because people still think this is funny for some reason. Overall though he’s a good kid who definitely has some issues with his past he needs to work out. Probably the most endearing part of the series is seeing how he starts to open himself up to the other characters and finally see what it’s like to have friends, something he didn’t seem to have when he was alive. \r\nKou: best boy. The adorable, earnest exorcist. Pretty much his whole character is that he’s a good boy. I support him. \r\nTsukasa: murDER boy. I guess the story needed a crazy shota antagonist. He’s boring.\r\nMitsuba: another sad, cute ghost boy. His friendship with Kou is very cute. \r\nAll the other male characters are literal whos except for the spider teacher who has a good design. \r\n\r\nNene: main girl. She\'s cute. She has radish legs and REALLY wants a boyfriend. I kid you not those are her defining traits. \r\nI should mention that they do push the romance angle with her and Hanako (and a little with Kou too). I probably should have put this as another reason to read the manga because it leads to a lot of cute, flustered interactions. While this element is by no means central to the plot (yet), it does help endear you to the characters.\r\nOther female characters: they’re fine, they’re cute, they’re not why you’re here. \r\n\r\nThe art: \r\nLike I said, it’s good.\r\nEverything is definitely pleasing to look at, but it’s the depictions of the strange and supernatural that give the manga an atmosphere that stands out.\r\n\r\nOverall:\r\nYou know if you’re a mark for this kind of thing or not. \r\n\r\nIf the anime turns out alright, it’s going to look very cool and have a nice atmosphere. Look forward to that!

WOAHWOAHWOAH!\r\n\r\nWant a fun, compelling story to binge on? Want to enjoy eye pleasing art you can stare at all day? Want to see a good mix of character development and relatability? Want to enjoy every frame and panel in this manga? Well, if so, I recommend taking a peek at this manga because personally, all of this criteria has fulfilled me. \r\n\r\nSTORY: 10\r\nTo me, this story is original in my opinion. Although the idea of having a supernatural partner is an old concept, the way the author molds that cliche into her own special thing in a school setting with little adventures involving supernatural school\n ...\n rumors, is astounding. She takes the story of what many might know as Bloody Mary and turns it into a whole school-wide adventure that I know I\'ve had imaginations of as a child but I have never seen anybody build it into a compelling story. I don\'t know about you, but I felt loads of different emotions while reading this and I hope you do too.\r\n\r\n\r\nART: 10\r\nThe art is a cutesy loli kind of style that I usually do not like in my manga. But, this is an exception. It absolutely captures the innocence of the characters yet it also turns the cute to creepy when needed. The landscape and all of the scenery are crisp and vivid even though it is just black and white. You guys should experience the art yourselves, since everybody\'s tastes are different, but make sure to try it out!\r\n\r\n\r\nCHARACTERS: 10\r\nThe characters are honestly SO ADORABLEEEEEEEEE. I feel like I can hug each lil character in my arms although not all are portrayed as the protagonists. Thinking back now, some may see the character types as cliche with their personalities in the sense of maybe this dude is like the cool popular type or that girl is too clumsy, but the author really did not make me sense that while reading at all. Character tropes are being reused and recycled all the time now, and so far, to me, this manga utilizes the tropes to fit when needed, and there is great character development that I feel like I\'m receiving an achievement while reading ^^ \r\n\r\nENJOYMENT: 10\r\nOverall enjoyment? AMAZING! I literally did not do anything but read it the whole day (it was winter break D:: no judge plzz ;-;) because the story was so entertaining to read. A lot of the time I was like AHHHHH and WOAHH and PRECIOUSSSSSS and ANFJA VHLF;MCKD,SZAN XSBC. Yeah, maybe I\'m just too emotional. I guess this part is up to you guys to decide if you enjoy it or not as well, we all have different preferences.\r\n\r\nIt might be a bit unrealistic to score all aspects a 10/10.. ahehe, but perhaps it was because I haven\'t read something so compelling to me in so long, but honestly, give it a try! \r\n\r\nHopefully you can enjoy it like me. Thanks for reading!
